SDG 6: clean water and sanitation

Since 2018, Ambius has been a proud ambassador for the Made Blue Foundation; an organisation dedicated to providing clean drinking water in countries where access is not a given. This partnership underscores our commitment to advancing UN SDG 6: clean water and sanitation for all.

Through our approach, we mirror the water used to care for our plants with an equivalent donation of drinking water to developing countries. For every litre of water Ambius uses for its plants (around 70 litres per planter each year) we donate a litre of clean drinking water to projects in areas where safe water supplies are limited.

Thanks to this collaboration, we have already donated more than 172 million litres of water to the Made Blue Foundation. This provides access to clean water for drinking, cooking, and washing for at least 2,362 families for ten years or more. Access to clean water transforms daily lives; beyond improving health, it helps unlock educational and economic opportunities. With reliable clean water, residents can spend more time on education and other productive pursuits like work. Furthermore, clean drinking water facilities are often built near schools and made available to the local community for a nominal fee, with the funds raised directly reinvested into improving education.

For our clients, every planter installed by Ambius directly supports a worthy cause. In this way, we actively practice social responsibility, making a direct contribution to drinking water accessibility and human well-being worldwide.

To further reduce and streamline our own water usage, we deploy efficient solutions across our greenhouses and offices. In our greenhouses, we use a water purification unit that circulates standing water. This prevents algae growth and enables efficient water recycling. In our offices, we have installed water-saving sensor taps. This smart technology prevents unnecessary water waste, helping us manage this precious resource more consciously.

Additionally, Ambius and Made Blue collaborate to bring social meaning to Christmas celebrations. For every Christmas tree hired from Ambius, 2,000 litres of clean drinking water are donated to developing countries, matching the exact volume of water a real tree needs to root, grow, and thrive.
