SDG 12: responsible consumption and production

We believe that responsible business practices begin at the source. Ambius focuses on eco-conscious choices throughout the entire lifecycle of our plants - from cultivation and procurement to maintenance, recycling, and composting.

The plants we install are grown with care for the environment by Nieuwkoop Europe BV, a nursery in De Kwakel. Every plant is issued a plant passport; an official document required for the phytosanitary clearance and trade of cuttings, seeds, young plants, and trees within the European Union. This passport guarantees full traceability and plant health status, driving transparency and reliability.

Non-native plants are shipped by Nieuwkoop as cuttings, taking up significantly less space than fully grown plants. This results in more efficient transport and reduced CO2 emissions per plant. Once on-site, these cuttings are cultivated into mature plants.

Cultivation, careful tending, and the conversion of soil-grown roots to hydroponics are supported by rainwater harvested, purified, and stored by Nieuwkoop in underground reservoirs. With an 11,000 m³ capacity, this system directly conserves water. Additionally, over 1,085 solar panels on the nursery roof generate renewable electricity to cover a major portion of its energy needs.

Ambius also cultivates plants in a controlled environment at our own greenhouse in Duiven. All irrigation water is captured in reservoirs, filtered, and reused, eliminating water waste. Returned plants that remain healthy are carefully fed and pruned for redeployment, while non-reusable plant matter is converted into biomass for compost or green energy production.

To reinforce our commitment to circular principles, Ambius offers a circular interior landscaping collection. This range includes vases, planters, bowls, and pedestals that are fully recyclable. Our retired planters are recycled, refurbished, or resprayed, with shredded plastic granulate forming the raw material for new products. We also utilize Cemanihood; the soft wood beneath the bark of teak trees that is typically discarded. We upcycle this byproduct into striking, circular feature pieces.

We absorb the manufacturing costs of these circular initiatives, enabling our clients to make responsible choices at no additional expense. In doing so, we demonstrate that environmental stewardship and commercial growth go hand in hand, fully aligned with UN SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

At Ambius, we focus heavily on waste prevention and high-quality recycling. We are dedicated to continuously lowering residual waste and drastically reducing single-use plastics. These efforts are central to our drive toward circular operations and preserving natural resources.
