The municipality of Gooise Meren lies at the heart of Het Gooi, encompassing the towns of Bussum, Naarden, Muiden, and Muiderberg. This young municipality is known for its green character, historic charm, and dedication to quality of life. As a public service organisation with a strong focus on hospitality and community engagement, it is important to the council that its physical spaces reflect these core values.
Creating ambiance with greenery
Upon entering the town hall, the waiting area felt functional, yet cold and distant. This did not align with the organisation's welcoming identity. The goal was clear: to create a warm, tranquil, and green environment where visitors experience a pleasant and inviting reception.
From design to delivery
Working alongside the council, we explored how natural elements could contribute to an inviting entrance. A bespoke planter was installed across the full width of the reception desk, filled with a carefully curated mix of plants featuring varying heights, textures, and shades of green. The result is a impressive 'urban jungle' that brings life to the room while exuding spatial tranquility.
The result
The waiting area now feels noticeably friendlier and more welcoming. The plants create a calm, natural atmosphere that enhances the experience for both visitors and staff. The entrance offers a warm welcome and truly reflects the hospitable values of the Gooise Meren municipality.
Research by Ambius and the University of Technology Sydney shows that, under controlled conditions, plants interact with volatile organic compounds such as petrol fumes.
In collaboration with the University of Groningen, Ambius discovered that workplace plants contribute to higher satisfaction, improved concentration, and positive support during daily task execution.
Research by Wageningen Environmental Research indicates that plants enhance the workplace experience, increase relative humidity, and support overall working comfort.
